Description

A few hundred metres away from the beach is Oostkapelle, where the former forest guard home ‘t Uusje is located. Oostkapelle is situated on the western corner of Walcheren (Zeeland).

 

Here you do not just find the many awarded cleanest beaches of the Netherlands but also a beautiful forest, dunes and other nature resorts. Plus, the area is part of “de Manteling van Walcheren”. The name ‘De Manteling’ indicates the function of this type of forest: protection against the strong sea wind. In the past rich merchants built their estate in ‘de Manteling’. Some of these estates, such as castle Westhove, can be viewed.

 

This nature resort between Domburg and the Veerse Gatdam includes beautiful forests, rough pieces of North Sea dunes, stately lanes and exciting, winding paths, forest ponds and surprising views. It is praised by experts because of its special flora and fauna such as the daffodil, bosanemoon, fennel herb and ramson. The fallow deer are hiding in the oak trees in the dunes and it is a loved breeding area for mainly singing birds.
