Description

Smeetshoeve is nestled in the heart of boundless nature. It is a typical Kempen long-gabled farmstead dating from 1873. The building is owned by the Nature and Forest Agency (Flemish government) and was given to Natuurpunt about ten years ago. Natuurpunt is a voluntary association that aims to protect vulnerable and endangered nature in Flanders. Smeetshoeve is located a few hundred metres from the border with the Netherlands. A wonderful place to discover the outdoors in Belgium.

Smeetshof is part of Kempen-Broek, a network of nature reserves that crosses the border and measures over 11,000-hectare. On the Dutch side, the area runs seamlessly into Wijffelterbroek. The property is located in the Smeetshof nature reserve; here you walk on the border between Belgium and the Netherlands, past forests, marshes, meadows and streams. The area is quiet and lively at the same time: flow-through marshes that are teeming with birds, such as egrets. These birds find the area an ideal place to gather strength during their long journey south. Other rare and endangered bird species, such as European stonechat and bluethroat, settle there to breed.

Viewpoints, bird-watching huts and boardwalks provide a unique glimpse into this surprising part of Kempen-Broek. As a result, Smeetshof is easily accessible. Various routes lead past the most beautiful spots in this area. Who knows, you might encounter Exmoor ponies, Galloway cattle or a roe deer. Some areas are signposted at the entrance as freely accessible. Just keep at least 25 metres away from the large herbivores in the nature reserve.

This authentic farm consists of 2 parts, with the living area reserved for guests of Buitenleven Vakanties. Smeetshoeve is an ideal holiday home for 6 adults or 4 adults with children. The fully equipped kitchen has a dishwasher and oven. The cosy living room has a wood-burning stove. Smeetshoeve has 3 bedrooms, with 1 double bedroom located on the ground floor. On the first floor, there is a double bedroom with a double bed at the front of the house. At the rear is a 4-person bedroom with a double bed and 2 single beds, which is ideally suited for children. Both double bedrooms have a bathroom with a shower and the 4-person bedroom has a bathroom with a bath. The house is heated by central heating fired by a pellet stove.

Volunteers from Natuurpunt meet in the adjacent barn. They work on managing the nature reserve.

Is Smeetshoeve already booked? Then check out Kloosterhof and Ursulahof, located in Limburg, the Netherlands.
