Description

Smeetshoeve is nestled midst boundless nature. This characteristic, long-gabled Kempian farmhouse dates back to 1873. The building is owned by the Agency for Nature and Forests (Flemish government) and was given to Natuurpunt about ten years ago. Natuurpunt is a volunteer association set up for the purpose of protecting vulnerable and endangered nature in Flanders. Smeetshoeve is located just a few hundred metres from the border with the Netherlands. This is a beautiful place to explore the outdoors in and around Belgium.

Smeetshof is part of Kempen-Broek, a nature network of over 11,000 hectares, which extends over the border. On the Dutch side, the area blends seamlessly with the Wijffelterbroek nature reserve. The house is located in the Smeetshof nature reserve; you can walk on the border between Belgium and the Netherlands. Stroll through forests, marshes, pastures and streams here. The area is tranquil yet bursting with life: flow-through wetlands are teeming with birds, such as egrets. The area is the ideal spot for these birds to regain their strength during their long journey south. Other rare and endangered bird species, such as the European stonechat and bluethroat, settle here to breed.

Viewpoints, bird hides, and boardwalks provide a unique glimpse into this remarkable part of Kempen-Broek. Smeetshof is easily accessible. Various routes lead past the most beautiful spots in this area. Who knows, you may encounter Exmoor ponies, Galloway cattle or deer. Some of the smaller areas have a sign at the entrance to indicate they are freely accessible. Please keep at least 25 metres away from the large grazers in the nature reserve.

This authentic farm consists of 2 sections, one of which forms the living area for guests of Buitenleven Vakanties. Smeetshoeve is an ideal holiday home for 6 people. The fully equipped kitchen contains a dishwasher and oven. There is a wood-burning stove in the cosy living room. Smeetshoeve has 3 bedrooms, with 1 double bedroom with a double bed located on the ground floor. On the first floor, at the front of the house, there is a double bedroom with a double bed. The third bedroom is located at the rear and has 2 single beds. This room is perfect for children. The first 2 bedrooms have a bathroom with a shower, while the other third bedroom has a bathroom with a bath. The house is heated by a central heating pellet stove. Volunteers of Natuurpunt meet in the adjacent barn. They manage the nature reserve.

Is Smeetshoeve already booked? Then take a look at Kloosterhof and Ursulahof, which are located in Limburg in the Netherlands.
