Description

This special holiday home is located on Kasteelruïne Batenburg. The small white plastered home offers a picturesque view across the castle ruins.

According to the sign screwed next to the front door it concerns a home dated from the middle of the 19th century that was built on a lock head. This means that there were lock gates at this spot that regulated the water level between the Maas and the moat. There are no remains left of the lock and how the water exactly flowed between the Maas and the moat is unknow.
But it takes little fantasy to image what this beautiful home looked like in the past 150 years. The area has hardly changed in these 150 years. The garden borders the moat and behind you can find the remains of the once impressive castle Batenburg. A bit to the right you can see the toll and entrance house.

On the front the lock head home provides a view across the vast floodplains of the Maas. If you look to the left you can see the aforementioned flower mill. On the other side is Batenburg itself, the idyllic town with a medieval town plan.

This carefully restored holiday home has on the ground floor a living room with cosy wood fire, a large kitchen and a glass bay window with breath-taking view across the castle ruins. From the hallway on the ground floor you have access to a single bedroom and a separate shower with toilet. On the first floor the spacious landing provides access to the master bedroom with toilet and washing basin. From the terrace at the back of the home you can wander about the battles and scenes from the past that took place in your back garden.
