Koekoekspaal

The Koekoekspaal holiday home is located near West-Terschelling. In the middle of a unique area of nature with phenomenal views of the forest from the living room. The back of the house lies in the lee of a dune. Built in World War II by the Germans for espionage purposes and after the war the domain of the Willem Barentsz scouting group.

This area is home to a varied landscape. It is the habitat of the protected blue-winged grasshopper and species such as the viviparous lizard, dune violet and fritillary. From the dune behind the house, there is a panorama over the North Sea dunes. Shifting sand has been given some space here in recent years, people found out that mass is more important than height to hold back the sea. A beautiful area for extensive cycling and walking tours. On the ground floor is the living room, where it is lovely to sit by the stove in the evening. In the conservatory, there is a spacious 6-person dining table. During the day, there are spectacular views over the nearby forest from here. The separate kitchen is fully equipped: a large fridge, oven, microwave and dishwasher. There is also a separate toilet and a bedroom with a double bed. On the first floor is a double bedroom with single beds and a bathroom with a bathtub. There is a lovely garden all around. A special feature of this house is the 'crow's nest'. A wooden terrace is adjacent to the bathroom on the 1st floor. It can be reached from both the house and the garden by a wooden staircase. An ideal place to enjoy the afternoon sun. Due to its location, the house is not wheelchair accessible.

When booking Cuckoo Pole, it is advisable to also book the boat. It is possible to drive to the house to unload luggage. You can park your car in a car park about 200 metres away on foot. The holiday home is easily accessible by bicycle. Park the car in Harlingen and cross by boat on foot. Book through Thijs Knop, then your luggage will be brought to the house and you will receive a 10% discount on bike rental.
