Keuterij Ghysselte

The farm Ghysselte has a unique location in forestry guard Ruinen in the south of Drenthe. The holiday home is hidden in the forest so you have a beautiful view across the fens of the Gijsselterkoelen, situated in the middle of the heathland in the forestry guard Ruinen. You can take lovely walks and bike rides directly from the holiday home. Peace, space and nature at its best.

More than 70 years ago the area of Ruinen was unspoilt terrain. Inaccessible with peat, sand and vast heathlands. In large parts of Drenthe pine forests were planted in the thirties of the previous century. The fast-growing, straight trunks of the pine trees were needed for the mining industry in Limburg. That is how forestry guard Ruinen was established. 1200 hectares, planted with larch, fir and pine trees. A few pieces were not planted. The Gijsselterkoelen is an example.
The holiday home Ghysselte is a small farm. Small farmers cultivated a small piece of land and had some (small) cattle but were often not able to fully provide for their own livelihood. In addition, the small farmers worked as field workers or factory workers. Nearby is the village of Ruinen (6 km) and the town of Hoogeveen (10 km).

The holiday home Ghysselte has a modern interior. The large living room has a spacious sitting corner with wood fire. The kitchen is equipped with all comforts, including dishwasher. The home has four bedrooms of which two are located upstairs (each with a double bed). Downstairs there is a bedroom with a double bed and a bed room with two single beds. There are two bathrooms. Around the home is a lovely garden with two large terraces and a bike shed. From these places you can enjoy the beauty of nature at whatever time of the day.
