Huis Landweer

This beautiful chalet-style house is located near the village of Roderesch in Drenthe. What makes it so special is the surrounding private forest. You rent the house and its own forest. It’s wonderful to wander around after breakfast in the morning, enjoying unparalleled beautiful nature. The Groningen family Landweer had the country house built in 1924, which was fairly unique at the time. It is now one of the last remaining holiday homes in this architectural style.

The forest area in which the Landweer House is located is indicated on the topographic map as Noorderduinen. The area was originally a heathland consisting of drifting dunes that, partly as a result of planting but partly also spontaneously, was developed into a beautiful forest area. In addition to many bird species, you can also come across squirrels and roe deer. And during a walk, look for a badger sett. During the day, the badgers like to sleep but maybe you can spot a family at nightfall. A visit to the nearby dolmen is certainly worth the effort.

By legacy, the house has been transferred to the good care of Het Drentse Landschap. The house has been restored in a sustainable and ecological way. The house is heated with heat pumps and solar panels provide electricity. To preserve the soul of the building, a glass compartment has been built from the ground to the ridge on the existing facade. This makes the old outer façade an inner facade. This facade has been completely restored to its former glory. That gives the space character and revives the atmosphere of days gone by.

The 4 to 5-person house has a spacious kitchen (fully equipped) with dining table. The enormous glass front provides a phenomenal view of the forest. On the ground floor, there is also the living room, a double bedroom (note, 2 person duvets) and the bathroom. This is furnished with a toilet, double sink, bath and walk-in shower. There is also a separate toilet. There is a double and a single bedroom on the 1st floor.
