Schepershuisje

In the heart of Drenthe, in the lovely green village of Westerbork you find the Schepershuisje on a leafy dead-end road. The home was once the residence of shepherd Noordhuis. The man who saved the Schoonebeek sheep breed. Nowadays the holiday home is equipped with all modern comforts but still oozes the atmosphere from bygone times. You stay the night in an old-fashioned bedstead but with the sleeping comfort of modern times. The home is located within walking distance of the oud village centre and the heathland Valckhof.

Near Westerbork you find the vast heathland of the Scharreveld. It is great to explore this nature resort per bike, same applies for the Beekdal of the Oude Diep. In the Holtherzand, close to the Scharreveld, you can make a lovely marked walking tour. At the end of summer you do not have to leave the route to enjoy the blue beauty of the bell gentians. They grow here a lot even directly along the route. The site is grazed by cattle and Schoonbeek moorland sheep, descendants of the Westerbork herd. In the nearby located Orvelte you can enjoy the village atmosphere around 1900. A visit to the Herinneringscentrum Westerbork and Drents Museum in Assen is also very rewarding.

The Schepershuisje is a cosy home with open kitchen (with combi-microwave and fridge-freezer). In the living room there are two large but cosy bedsteads (adjusted to the current wishes regarding sleeping comfort). Please note, the wood fire in the living room is just for decoration and unfortunately cannot be used. These is also a washing machine in the home. The home is surrounded by a lovely garden with terrace and bike shed.
