Pake Hiem

Pake Hiem means “Granddad’s home” in Frisian. Actually, that is not a strange name.  However, what is surprising is that the home is located in the Limburg Schin op Geul, where the ‘g’ sounds softer than butter. Schin op Geul, where Frater Venantius came from, a character of Wim Sonneveld and over whom he wrote the following: ‘I am Frater Venantius from Schin op Geul, better known as the singing Frater. Not to be confused with that other artist from Ubach-over-Worms, that is the talking Vicar.’

Pake Hiem is located between the rare orchid species. History does not mention how this beautiful holiday home got its name. A granddad from Sneek probably spend his holiday here in the early days!

Here you can walk or cycle through the Gerendal, a beautiful sloping nature resort. On the east side there is a rather steep hill with trees and plenty of lime, after all you are in the most mountain-like area in the Netherlands! The sheep graze on these hills. The forests, including Oombos, is cut through by small streams with crystal clear water. Numerous orchid species grow on the lime meadows but there are also special butterfly species.

And: Germany and Belgium are near this foreign looking part of the Netherlands!

Holiday home Pake Hiem has a beautiful location in this special landscape. In the stylish renovated home with modern furniture the open kitchen (dishwasher, oven, microwave) is equipped with all comforts. This is connected to the spacious combines dining and living room with a playing corner for the children and a second sitting corner. There are also two bathrooms (one with bath tub), four bedrooms and a spacious sleeping attic. Outside you can use the shed and a beautiful situated terrace.
